This is the question George Verdugo, a successful long-time domain investor and serial developer, tweeted last week in hopes of uncovering a few undervalued domain assets.

He’s certainly not a new face to industry. A living legend, by many standards, not short on vision, stories, and facts/opinions about domain, business, and life in general, having held more than 30 jobs in a 5 year span.

The farewell breakfast Saturday morning and the Brewery Tour that same afternoon was just the activities to put a nice bow on all the good accomplished over the last few days.

About 40 attendees attended the farewell breakfast, and everyone shared their best memory of the event and stories from past events.

Everyone and their grandmother, if not great-grandmother by now, use emoji — billions daily in collective use — to communicate a multitude of thoughts and expressions daily.

Whether by email, text, chat, clothing, or billboards, emoji marketing has nearly touched every possible form of communication, including domain names.

From Apple to Taco Bell to Domino’s to name a few, a growing number of brands are committing more and more marketing and advertising dollars to the use of emoji marketing.

One of the most recent announcements for brands entering the emoji marketing space with their own branded emoji — the pickup truck — is Ford Motor Company.

It’s always interesting to travel back through time, and examine the lifecycle and events of a trending topic, especially when it relates to domains.

Having been entrenched or involved with domains for the last 7-8 years, I find that the domain industry is no exception.

There have been a number of trends — blockchain, crypto, bitcoin, 4L .coms, numeric, and emoji domains, to name a few — that have come, gone, returned, and left once more.

Out of the aforementioned topics, emoji domains are the most intriguing for a number of reasons.

Technology to build and develop websites has journeyed quite a way in the last 30 or more years, yet it still has a way to go. Where will websites venture next? No one knows.

But no matter the technology behind the website, the one constant most website operators desire is the ability to keep their website content fresh and relevant while maintaining the flexibility and fluidity to keep content dynamic in nature.

One of the most neglected elements of most websites is the lonely sidebar. Most websites will update their sidebars sparingly with a new product, lead magnet, or newsletter sign-up just beneath the search bar, recent posts, or trending posts.

And while many focus on cranking out new content in hopes of “striking it rich” to secure the top spot on page one of Google, there are a number of websites cleverly using their sides bars to display or hide content based on tag, category, post or page type, archive and the list go on.

While many know that WordPress offers a widget area to create and modify a static sidebar, many don’t know that WordPress offers the ability to create and use dynamic content sidebars.

In a day when kids, and adults too, are often consumed with and by a sea of devices, I’m intrigued when encountering companies appropriately fusing STEM, Common Core, and relation-building skills.
