Written by: Alvin Brown

Open any web browser and use the Internet, I’m willing to bet you will come into contact with pay-per-click advertising (PPC) at some point during you web usage.

You see pay-per-click ads on top, bottom, and to the right of all pages in search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo as well as social media websites, Facebook to be more exact.

Pay-per-click advertising, also known as ppc advertising or search marketing — a more search engine optimization common or generalized name — is an effective method and internet advertisement system to drive profitable and targeted traffic to one’s website.

In today’s post, I hope to shed a little light on the pay-per-click advertising, and how to effectively use pay-per-click advertising in such a way that you can make it a profitable search marketing method to drive and convert targeted traffic.

Let’s jump in and get started with the good, the bad and ugly in pay-per-click advertising.

Indeed, keywords are important in regards to search engine rankings.  However, you don’t want to spin your wheels on highly competitive and expensive keywords to never convert.

5 Practical SEO Tips (Infographic)

May 28, 2013 1 Comment
Written by: Alvin Brown

As I mentioned in our recent post, 5 Practical SEO Tips to Increase Traffic, it is imperative for your business to start search engine optimization (SEO) on a firm foundation.

There are many on-page and off-page facets of SEO to focus upon.

When engaging with customers, I can’t stress the importance of having a solid and intimate understanding of practical SEO.

Know the difference between good and sound SEO principles versus bad and detrimental SEO principles.  And yes there can be a fine line between the two SEO types.

Take a moment and step back when SEO gets blurry or confusing as to what is right or wrong.  Stop, collect yourself and diligently seek honest information when this occurs.

Spike Lee said it best, “Do the right thing!”  Do the honest and for sure thing that is right (white-hat SEO), even if it will take you a longer time to see results.

Desperately living by SEM and dying by SEM
Written by: Alvin Brown

“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.”  Matthew 26:52 (NIV)

Today’s post took me back scripture and without apology.

Most business owners operating in the online space have come to recognize the importance and role that major search engines play in regards to their revenue stream.

From organic or natural search to link building to pay-per-click advertising, businesses throughout the world are counting on search engines to make the cash register ring each and every day.

As much as I love honest search engine marketing and, more so, organic search engine optimization, I would like to share a story with you of a business owner and their business reaping the harvest of a SEM firm sewing bad link building strategies.

Be forewarned about who and what company(ies) are allowed to optimize your website or provide search engine marketing services for your online business.

If your business is heavily dependent upon major search engines or they are the only source of driving revenue, your business that is desperately living by SEM could very well find itself signing a death certificate for a slow and painful death by SEM.

Today’s cautionary tale of living and dying by SEM is provided by a premium generic domain: Candy.com.
