Is New gTLD Financing a Match Made in Heaven?

May 17, 2018 1 Comment
Written by: Alvin Brown

Of course, financing domain names is nothing new under the sun. Domain leasing and financing certainly happens each and every week, if not on a daily basis.

It’s not news to read about a person or company leveraging varying financing options to hopefully stake their claim to highly-valued virtual real estate.

The question I pose is whether or not financing of new gTLDs is likely the chasm that separates registries that fail and flop versus those that wildly succeed.

Pros and Cons of Geo Service Domains
Written by: Alvin Brown

A little over five years ago, I accidentally stumbled upon something that forever altered my domain development experience: geo service domains.

Sometimes categorized as exact-match or partial-match domains, I encountered a geo service domain via GoDaddy’s expired domain buy-it-now/closeout auctions for a suburb of the greater Austin, Texas metro.

Although Google had issued an exact match domain update that devalued and slightly lessen exact match domains’ ranking, I decided to take a chance on developing my newly discovered geo service domain.

Little did I realize my development and SEO prowess would produce a page one ranking geo service domain website.

Years later, and many new and existing domain investors still question whether or not geo service domains are worth investing in.  That’s the question will attempt to answer in today’s podcast.

Connecting Brands and Emoji Domain Owners With Emoji Domain Leasing

If you’re new to registering and owning emoji domains, then you’ve likely discovered the scarcity of single emoji domains, especially .WS and .TO emoji domain extensions.

Or perhaps you were one of many lucky persons able to snag a few circa 2014 or 2015 before emoji domain search sites and engines started popping up left and right.

And if not then, then maybe you purchased your favorite emoji domains by way of public auction, expiring auction, or a 3rd-party private sale.

Emoji domains are the current talk of the town. But truth be told, emoji domains somewhat remind me of the dog that barked and chased the car. How so?

One year out, and another year in! And with a new year, brings a slew of new domain investing opportunities and perspectives to explore.

Over the last 6 months or so, I’ve shared a number of domain interviews from technologists to designers to entrepreneurs to investors to marketplaces and more…

Picking up from where we left off last, one of the latest opportunities to take hold in the domain industry are emoji domains.

Until now, most interviews I’ve covered have highlighted independent investors or traders investing in emoji domains.

How to Negotiate Marketing Budget for Domain Lease Agreements

December 8, 2017 No Comments
Written by: Alvin Brown

If you hang around the domain industry long enough, then you’ll likely discover most domain portfolios often sit priced unrealistically, and collecting more dust than inquiries and sales.

And if researching and drumming up leads, inquiries, and sales for your domain portfolio is not within your wheelhouse, then things aren’t looking up for you, and it’s only a matter of time before you call it quits.

Why you ask? For starters, the glory days of parked domains earning 4 and 5 figures per month have long passed us all by.

And for most domain investors, developing partial or entire domain portfolio is a costly experience nor is development a skill within their wheelhouse.

Then add to this that new domain investors often commit the grave error of obliging the domain buyer’s bug without one thought towards a plan to strategy.

And it isn’t long before a year passes and the domain renewal grinch arrives at the door knocking and expecting prompt payment.

Make no mistake about it! You must identify an option for your domain to generate income to support renewal cost of it and others, and in short order too! But how?

If you’re a domain investor, also known as a domainer, then today’s topic of choice is likely very trivial to you.

In fact, you may wonder why I would even take the time to write about such a trivial topic.

Whether you want to believe it or not, there are many professionals, business owners, and people in general that don’t know how to go about finding a domain owner and their contact information.

I receive a couple of emails a week from persons asking about how to find domain owner contact info.
