Penguin 3.0 RolloutGray Thursday, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and holiday shopping is fast closing in on us as we near the end of 2014. And if that’s not enough to ask and prepare for, Google has begun the holiday season kicking off the last Penguin 3.0 update.

It’s been a while since we last posted about mad Pandas and Penguins being unleashed throughout the web. Well, that all changed and continues to change as of October 17th with the rollout of Penguin 3.0.

The latest rollout is not complete as of yet. Therefore, it will be a few weeks before any of us really truly know the damage caused by this update.

We currently know that Penguin 3.0 is a refresh and not a full-fledge update, and now only impacts roughly less than 1% of US search queries.

With no new signals added to the Penguin algorithm, most of the changes are geared to help sites that were previously penalized for recovering and for demoting newly found spammed sites.

Seeing it’s been a week since the start of the rollout, I’ve found it quite challenging to know whether or not my website portfolio has genuinely been impacted. It’s hard to tell whether sites have dodged a bullet or been caught in the Panda or Penguin crosshairs.

Nevertheless, there has been no sudden change in a positive or negative direction for web and SEO analytics. I’ll definitely be watching analytics like a hawk over the next couple of weeks.
