frequently asked questions

A few years ago, I was inundated by customer call, email, and web inquiries on a daily basis. Most inquiries centered around solving a number of technical challenges and dreams pertaining to WordPress.

From dynamic sidebars to popups and modals to integrating with MailChimp and many more, I often found myself in search of sent emails and previous digital notes I shared with customers containing solutions or possible avenues of functionality to consider.

This approach works well when you’re a one-man shop with a handful of inquiries in a given week.  Not so much when you go with 2 or more employees and a growing customer base.  This type of hunt-and-find-an-answer approach simply doesn’t scale.

Operating multiple WordPress sites for a variety of different businesses and disciplines, I finally hit my limit and was forced to address the inefficiency of fielding a snowballing number of inquiries.

After studying a number of WordPress themes, templates, and active websites, the best solution for me to do to handle snowballing inquiries were two fold: Tutorials and FAQs.

No more giving fish for a day when you can teach a person to fish for a lifetime.

Just as you likely found your way to this very tutorial through a search result, I begin documenting the process and procedures for a number of how-to tutorials for customers.

While tutorials are great for in depth content or step-by-step instructions, they don’t lend themselves to a short, direct question with a matching answer.

To address the question and answer challenge before me from a growing number of WordPress customers, I stumbled upon the perfect WordPress FAQ solution: Ultimate FAQ Plugin.

There are a number of FAQ plugins — Heroic FAQs, HMTL5 Responsive FAQ, Arconix FAQ, FAQ Plus, WooCommerce Product FAQ Manager — available for WordPress, both non-paid and paid.

Although the aforementioned list of FAQ plugins can get the job done in their own way, I chose Ultimate FAQ due to the easy and simplicity in setup and configuration.

Ultimate FAQ is one of the best freemium plugins — containing full customization option for a small cost — in the business offering a streamlined and well thought out interface and experience.

From single, category, and group FAQ options to complete customization of the look and feel, I was able to create a FAQs section for customers in under 10 minutes — that’s installation, configuration, and implementation, and adding a FAQs section to a WordPress website.

WordPress plugins are often guilty of being bloated with useless code. This is not the case for Ultimate FAQ. In addition, it plays well with other plugins and core WordPress updates.

Another great bonus is that I’ve witnessed is adding Ultimate FAQ with many questions and answers on a single page has boosted search rankings for a few customers and their well crafted content.

How about that?  You gain efficiency not having to answer the same questions while gaining greater search visibility in hopes of reaching and serving more customers.  The Ultimate FAQ plugin is a win-win situation.

While I could go on and on about all I’ve learned with and about using the Ultimate FAQ plugin for customers and myself, I invite you to install the plugin on your own website to see for yourself.

Please don’t hesitate to leave comments should you have questions or encounter technical challenges implementing this tutorial.

Thanks and that’s all for now!
