Nevertheless, you’ve had to be living under a rock or some place not Earth to have missed all the hoopla in regards to Bitcoin, Ethereum and cryptocurrencies in general.

As it pertains to domaining, there are many domain professionals, investors, and hobbyists either fully committing or been dabbling in cryptocurrency in some way.

Personally, I have to admit that I really don’t understand the technicalities of cryptocurrency pertaining to mining and initial coin offerings.

When I fall behind, I often work my way through from last watched episode to most recent.

I finally arrived at the most recent to painfully identify with a situation that I certain that all domain investors have come to know a time or two.

It was a simple oversight that could happen. In fact, this oversight is likely to happen to us or someone we know operating a company as some point.

Just due to the shear nature of the business I’m in, search marketing and domain investing and consulting, I see more often than most.

In truth, it’s an everyday experience that is as normal as breathing for me to encounter as I sift through daily lists of expired domains in auction.

And so, what is this “it” that I speak of that is supposedly the most simple, yet costly process for businesses to overlook?

Over the weekend, @emojidomaincode retweeted @ContrarianCdn’s tweet about not realizing how “real” emoji domains were.

Quite a few folks are surprised, shocked, stunned or baffled in discovering emoji domains exist.

For some it’s life altering to find out, while others tend to shrug off emoji domains as a waste of time, money, and tech.

Nevertheless, @emojidomaincode’s retweet uncovered something that I had not known pertaining to emoji domains as of late:

Amidst big brands such as Amazon, Walmart, and the list goes on, small businesses account for quite a bit of market share.

Google estimates that there are approximately 115 million small businesses in the world while the United States of Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy estimates that there are 28.8 million businesses in the US alone.

Of course, there’s much discussion to be had pertaining to what specific attributes must be realized to qualify as a small business. But I’m not writing to debate those finer points.

With both numbers on the rise annually, one has to wonder how small businesses are able to affordably differentiate themselves, especially when considering small businesses with a strict local or hyper-local presence.

How many oil change, dog grooming, nail salon and other local-centric business services do you pass daily going to and fro?

If you’re like me, then you’re likely surrounded by a growing number of small businesses, varying in name, peddling similar services in hopes that a potential customer remembers their business when the need arises.

Hoping that customers remember your business in a sea of competitive small businesses offerings is not a sound plan for existing or growing local market share.

But here’s something to ponder. Would you be interested in uniquely differentiating your business from the competition using an emoji domain?
