If you’re into emoji domains, yet missed the opportunity to secure a coveted single emoji domain, then you might want to head over to i❤️.ws’ emoji domain marketplace.
There is a growing number of emoji domains available for sale via GoDaddy Auction platform. As of 8/15/2017, 3,750 to be exact and growing daily.
Most emoji domains are listed as “offer”, meaning you’ll likely have to negotiate your way to ownership.
But don’t despair, there are a few emoji domains in or soon-to-be in buy-it-now (BIN) closeout status.
To be exact, ✎.ws (the lower-right pencil which is really a pictograph and not emoji domain) is available to be purchased at $10 (at the time of this writing).
And if you’re not familiar with GoDaddy BIN Closeout domains, then simply put, BIN domains are first come, first serve.
Typically, previously registered domains not renewed with GoDaddy are listed in expired auctions.
Should domains not receive a backorder or bid during their allotted GoDaddy auction time, then the domains are listed with BIN pricing that is reduced daily until someone purchases the domain (plus 1 year renewal fee) or the domain reaches $5.
If no one purchases the BIN domain, then the domain is placed in pending delete status.
Attempting to wait for a BIN domain to reach $5 can be risky business, depending upon how valuable the domain is perceived to be.
It’s best to purchase a BIN domain when you see it, because someone or many others may very well have the same idea as you. 😉
In this case, ✎.ws is the only emoji domain with a BIN status.
However, there are two more emoji domains, ⚰️👻.ws and 👴🏼.ws, in expired auction with auction end dates of 8/20/2017 and 8/22/2017 respectively. Both emoji domains may end up in BIN status, but we’ll have to wait and see.
And speaking of waiting and seeing, I’m quite interested in seeing whether or not the frequency of “Bid” and “BuyNow” statuses increases for emoji domains.
One reason I think we’re likely to see both bid statuses for emoji domains trickle upward in time is due to GoDaddy’s .ws renewal rate of ~$22.
This $22 renewal rate for emoji domains is quite a long ways from the $4.99 and $9.99 rates we’ve experienced thus far, yet it’s still competitively priced when comparing other ccTLD extensions offering emoji domain registration, such as .to’s $45 price tag.
No matter the extension, things are going to get interesting, both usage and auction wise, should there NOT be cashflow by users and investors to warrant supporting emoji domain renewals.
For now, we’ll have to sit, watch and wait for time to pass…
