😱 GoDaddy Raises Emoji Domain Prices

Either I’m up too early and out of sorts, or it’s true that GoDaddy has doubled the price of their .ws emoji domains.

Although it could be the former, I’m certain the latter is as real as a $2 bill.

If you desire to purchase a single or bulk emoji domain at GoDaddy, then you might be in for a bit of sticker shock. 😱

Previously, a single or bulk purchase GoDaddy emoji domains in the .ws extension cost $4.99 (.ws retail rate is ~$35 via website.ws).

For those of you that were waiting around thinking that emoji domains were going to be $4.99 forever, I’m sorry but those $4.99 days are a thing of the past.

I repeat… the good ole’ $4.99 emoji domain days are gone, my friends. 💸

All I know is as of July 1st, $9.99 is the new purchase price for emoji domains.

To be fair to GoDaddy, the emoji domain price hike could have happened before this date and I’m just now becoming aware of it.  Doubt it, but it could be the case.

I discovered the pricing increase as I ran a few routine checks in preparation for my weekly list of available emoji domains.

I checked both GoDaddy and i❤️.ws a few times to make sure I wasn’t losing my marbles.

Both sites clearly report the new $9.99 pricing for emoji domains as you can see below when checking the availability of the 🚗♣️.ws (car club) emoji domain.

And as a side note, yes the domain is still available at the time of this writing.

Will emoji domain registrations continue?

Who knows when the next price hike will occur and what the price will be, but I suggest buying desired emoji domains while prices are relatively low, especially if bulk purchasing.

From a domain investor perspective, it’ll be interesting to see how GoDaddy’s price hike changes emoji domain registrations.

I’m not certain whether emoji domain registrations will slow down, stay steady, or increase their frequency.

It’s an interesting move by GoDaddy seeing that more emoji domain registrations are likely to happen with the release of The Emoji Movie next month.

What’s the long-term impact of emoji domains?

The real area of focus, in my opinion, will be emoji domain renewals and what this price hike does long term.

It certainly makes things a bit interesting over at the emoji domain marketplace as registered emoji domains approach expiration.

I imagine the emoji domain marketplace to endure a price shift towards realistic emoji domain valuations as is likely the case for emoji domain investor portfolios too.

Most importantly, GoDaddy’s emoji domain price hike likely raises a sense of urgency for domain investors to make quicker sales rather than sitting and waiting on time to pass.

We could see an increase in outbound emoji domain sales efforts via email, Twitter, and more.

No one knows what the future holds for emoji domains, but this price hike may be the shake-up to make things more interesting sooner rather than later.

My parting words are to be wise in what emoji domains you register and renew, especially if bulk registering and renewing.

And for those of us who got in early at $4.99, count your blessings and focus on making sales before renewals come knocking (hoping you planned and purchased for more than 1 year). 😎

Happy 4th if I don’t post before then!
