Top Verisign Trending Keywords Report for June

Yup, you know what time it is, right? That’s right! It’s time for Verisign’s Top Trending Keywords Report.

Today, I’ve compiled June’s trending keywords registered for .com and .net domains.

In comparison to May’s list of keywords, June surprisingly dropped the keywords health, tech, and design, being replaced by emerging keywords diag, thread, and black. The dropping of health amidst COVID is most surprising.

Specifically, the keywords diag and black were keywords contained in registered .com and .net domains due to Juneteenth (short for “June Nineteenth) — an annual holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, has been celebrated by African-Americans since June 19, 1865 when Union army general Gordon Granger announcing federal orders in Galveston, Texas that all slaves in Texas were free.

The keyword diag appears to be a location in Ann Arbor, Michigan based on a few Google searches. The keyword thread is about the only one that baffles me and doesn’t truly make sense.

In addition, while many businesses opened their doors during May and June, many are now forced to reverse their actions and remain closed as COVID cases skyrocket in the US, and throughout the world.

Again, we’ll continue to keep a close eye on how this list of keywords continues to trend in the coming months as businesses re-open/re-close due to COVID. For now, COVID-19 cases, infections, and deaths appear to be on the rise.
