Estate Planning for Domain Investors Takes Center Stage Day Three of NamesCon Global 2020

February 3, 2020 No Comments
Your Portfolio Never Dies: Estate Planning for Domain Investors. | NamesCon Global 2020 in Austin, Texas
Written by: Alvin Brown

Day one of NamesCon was all about settling into the conference and venue layout, meeting new people, and finding your lane of expertise and interest amongst the many information-packed sessions.

With Day one jitters behind us, Day two of NamesCon was about going deeper in old and newly found relationships, empowering everyone to do what it is they do well as presentd by Aman Bhutani — CEO of GoDaddy, and of course, awards and the much anticipated live domain auction.

As for Day three of NamesCon, it too would move the bar of excellence higher, especially pertaining to generational domain investing and prudent estate planning for domain portfolios.

But more on that in a moment.

First things first, Day three of NamesCon kicked off with a packed Keynote Hall eagerly waiting to hear from James Booth about his winding domain investing journey as a domain broker — “Phenomenal Keynote: Fireside Discussion with James Booth of Phenom.com”.

Domain Buying and Selling in the Chinese Domain Market with Kassey Lee.

The Chinese Domain Market is likely to be daunting or mysterious to understand, to say the least, especially if the only information consumed is Western-based domain investing.

Since entering into domain investing in late 2012, I’ve stumbled upon sites — 4.cn and ename.com — dedicated to domain buying and selling in China.

Personally, I’ve never quite understood the ins and outs of domain buying and selling in the Chinese Domain Market in great clarity, if any at all, even after making 2 4-figure sales during the 4L .com craze, as known as the Chinese domain bubble.

No need to fear though if you too are in the dark about understanding the Chinese domain market.

Written by: Alvin Brown

Excitement and anticipation greatly build, and could be felt on this beautiful 70 degree day here in Austin, Texas, home of NamesCon 2020.

I ventured downtown after a late lunch meeting to take full advantage of pre-registration — securing my conference badge and additional details, and getting acclimated with conference layout.

Pay Close Attention to Dan.com’s Meet the Seller Box
Written by: Alvin Brown

Last week and into the weekend, I dove into researching and setting up a couple of hundred domains from my domain portfolio using Dan.com, formerly Undeveloped.com.

Most of my domain portfolio is listed via Afternic.com, generating a minimum of 2-3 monthly sales, roughly $2,700 average sale price.

While Afternic.com provides a rather large footprint and exposure to potential domain buyers, it commands 20 percent commissions for each domain sale transaction.

Enter Dan.com with 9 percent commissions for each domain sale transaction.

GoDaddy Boosts Search in Latest Domain Investor App Update

GoDaddy Boosts Search in Latest Domain Investor App Update
Written by: Alvin Brown

It’s been nearly 6 months since GoDaddy completed and launched an entire re-write of its Domain Investor App.

As a user of the previous version(s) of the app, I was pleased with the added functionality of two-factor authentication fix, notifications, estimated value of domain, and the additional details for domains, to name a few.

The app unfortunately lacked the critical component of searching for expired domains and adding each to favorites or a watch list.

However, this is no longer the case in the latest iOS app update (not certain if Android was updated too), as shared in my most recent video review of the app.
