GoDaddy Boosts Search in Latest Domain Investor App Update

It’s been nearly 6 months since GoDaddy completed and launched an entire re-write of its Domain Investor App.

As a user of the previous version(s) of the app, I was pleased with the added functionality of two-factor authentication fix, notifications, estimated value of domain, and the additional details for domains, to name a few.

The app unfortunately lacked the critical component of searching for expired domains and adding each to favorites or a watch list.

However, this is no longer the case in the latest iOS app update (not certain if Android was updated too), as shared in my most recent video review of the app.

As of today, app users can now search, filter, and sort expired domain auctions, as well as add each domain as a favorite or to their watch list (see search icon/text) at the bottom center of image).

In addition, executed searches can be saved and are displayed in the new Search area along with recent executed searches (as shown below).

Prior to this most recent update, app users had to search and add expired domains using the desktop version of website before expired domains would appear in app.

And speaking of appear, if you’re using Dark mode on your iPhone, you’ll notice expired domain listings do not appear in the app (see image below).

Rather the domain name itself doesn’t appear, but the time remaining, bid, and bid amount.

But by going into your iPhone’s Settings > Display & Brightness, and toggling Light mode enabled, this triggers the actual domain name to be visible (see image below).

A nice little magic trick, I mean bug, that’ll be patched in the next update, sooner rather than later. 😉

Nevertheless, with the first release of search now in the app, I’ll give’er another spin. I quit using app shortly after re-write because of having to search for and add expired domains to watch list using desktop version of web. But that’s all news now that search is available via the app.

In closing, GoDaddy’s making good progress with the app, but there’s always going to be room for improvement, as is with anything in life.

Next, and in addition to existing bugs in the app being patched/fix, I would like to see the following in the next release(s) of app:

  • Searching for and purchasing hand-reg domains
  • Viewing and purchasing closeout auctions
  • Purchase expired domain auctions won
  • View and manage domain portfolio
  • Domain portfolio reporting — simple canned reports of TLD breakdown, PPC revenue, Average estimated value of domain in portfolio, etc.)

While there are many more thoughts and ideas to enhance the overall app experience, let’s simply pace ourselves, and set realistic deadlines and expectations of what can be achieved in the next 6 months.

What do you think of GoDaddy’s search, favorite, and watch list addition to its Domain Investor App?
