GoDaddy Products Not Auto Renewing

UPDATE 05/08/2019: It appears that GoDaddy’s auto-renewal service is back to normal, automatically renewing products that have payment info associated and auto-renewal enabled. However, I do recommend checking at least one per week as a safe guard.


About 5 years ago, I discovered a number of domains not renewing in my GoDaddy account that were set to auto renew. Long story short, the auto renew issue was narrowed down to “Pending Whois Verification”.

Now imagine how surprised I was today to log into my GoDaddy accounts for different business ventures, and discover all accounts had products set to auto renew that were 4-5 days past due.

In one of my accounts, I discovered the Discount Domain Club product that should have auto renewed hadn’t as well as one domain. What I don’t know is how long this glitch has been happening?

Of course, I did the logical thing next, checking to ensure all payment methods were up to date, and they were. Then, I checked to be sure all domains in question had payment methods associated, and they where. I even performed successful test purchase of a few closeout domains.

With payment methods current and more than enough funds in all accounts, I decided to wait a day to see if anything would be triggered or return back to business as normal. Nope, no change!

I called and spoke my account rep, Tony, and he was unaware of any technical glitches. Another thing to note was that GoDaddy’s call volume was abnormally high when I phoned first-level support. Of course, I was routed to my account rep though, but thought it was interesting.

Nevertheless, my account rep and GoDaddy’s technical team are looking into this issue. What’s scary is not knowing if I’ve lost any names because of this issue. 😱

And even more costly, is that if Discount Domain Club did not renew but other domains did, then I as well as others have lost substantial savings by domains renewing at non Discount Domain Club rates. 😳

Don’t know if this glitch is widespread to all GoDaddy customers, or a handful of customers. For now, I’ve manually renewed products while waiting to hear from GoDaddy on what happened and how they’ve remedied this glitch.
