Nevertheless, always checking at the top of the morning and again at midday, there was not much news that had taken place over the course of the day.

I’m back with another tutorial that aims to help you not only resolve a longstanding WordPress challenge but it will also increase the overall website performance.

Today’s tutorial comes from a recent customer inquiry I fielded not long ago. The customer’s WordPress website has been integrated to use CloudFlare — if you’re not using this service, then you need to start ASAP.

I’ve integrated a number of WordPress websites to use CloudFlare, and all have witnessed the increased performance, which has led to a bump in organic search traffic.

Although this particular customer’s website had been integrated with CloudFlare, there remained a number of challenges — browser caching, 30+ external CSS and JS files, and good ole’ WordPress version query parameters appended to static resources.

Here we are closing out a Tuesday with Hump Day fast approaching, and GoDaddy has found a way to bring small business websites throughout the world using their WordPress and Classic web hosting packages to a complete halt.

I knew something went wrong when I received a flurry of emails close to 5 PM EST about a number of customer websites being down.

I didn’t pay much attention because I saw most were back up in 5 minutes or less.

Then came the knockout punch some 15 minutes later when every last customer website I support was displaying the dreadful WordPress error message:

Nothing says a writer cares more about their reader community than offering a reading time commitment and reading progress bar experience, especially when long-form content is the norm.

Not every reader, especially new readers, will stay the course and read long-form content from the first to the last word.

In fact, many readers often scan content in an F-shaped Pattern for specific content and information instead of reading the content in its entirety.

To improve the overall user experience and reading engagement, there are two actions to implement:

One of the biggest challenges for most website owners is developing and sustaining a content marketing strategy that is consistent and relevant.

Often times delivering website content becomes the goal rather than delivering relevant content that is engaging.

Most website content is often outdated no sooner than it goes live. However, more and more websites have committed to creating and sustaining the efforts to keep content evergreen.

One of the ways evergreen content is achieved is by displaying updated or last modified timestamps for each piece of content — see CNN image below.
